Annual Hazmat Registration – Due July 1

Per Title 49 CFR Part 107, Subpart G (107.601 – 107.620), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) requires hazardous material (HAZMAT) transporters to register and pay a fee for annual registration certificates.

HAZMAT transporters include businesses that ship hazardous materials requiring a U.S. DOT placard such as certain hazardous waste, including petroleum marketers, heating oil dealers, common carriers of petroleum products and propane suppliers who ship their products in trucks.

Since registrations can be multiyear, not all certificates will expire on July 1, 2017. Only those with expiring DOT PHMSA HAZMAT registration certificates must re-register before July 1, 2017 or risk a substantial civil penalty and risk losing authority to operate.
